Please mark your calendars for the Bixel Exchange’s first ever Fashion andTechnology Salon on Feb. 25 from 6:30-9 p.m at Maker City LA at The Reef, a collaborative and creative habitat in downtown LA. This event will highlight today’s attempts at blending fashion, function and technology.
With the announcement that the LAPD will initiate the use of 7,000 wearable body cameras to increase transparency and trust within the community, we will sit down with Steve Soboroff, President of the Los Angeles Police Commission, to discuss this initiative, the technology behind it and the future of technology and law enforcement. Mr. Soboroff will be accompanied by Daniel Gomez, Officer in Charge – Tactical Technology Section to demonstrate some of their technology first hand.
As the LAPD concludes their demonstration we will transition to the runway for a wearables showcase featuring some of the best examples of fashion meeting technology. We will feature Tommy Hilfiger and PVILION’s Solar Panel Jacket which is perhaps one of the truest products melding high fashion and technology.
The content portion of the evening will finish up with a panel of LA based fashion experts. Their expertise will range from wearable devices, innovative materials and the LA fashion landscape.
As at all of our events: networking, food and beverage will be present throughout. We'd be honored to have you participate.
All attendees will receive a free General Assembly class or workshop credit in Santa Monica or Downtown LA. Shout out to General Assembly for this awesome deal! .

Voyce - Monitoring Dog's Health and Wellness
Voyce is unlike any pet tracker on the market. Its advanced sensors tracks vital signs, such as heart rate and respiratory rate, along with wellness indicators like activity, rest, and calories burned. Voyce gives concerned owners a deeper look into their pets’ wellbeing by revealing key data trends, offering timely information, and providing actionable recommendations. Our design needed to convey this device’s sophistication and help differentiate the Voyce brand, giving it a paw up on its competitors.
Designers were challenged to accommodate two distinct end users: dogs and humans. We selected materials and forms that would be comfortable and durable for dogs, such as a soft, weather-resistant rubber band that integrates the device’s electrical components seamlessly so pets won’t have to feel a thing. We implemented features that make things easy for pet owners; an intuitive clasp allows them to put on, remove, and adjust the collar with one simple mechanism, without pinching their animal’s neck in the process.
With a design that’s simultaneously durable, comfortable, and approachable, the Karten Design team developed the first wearable device to help bridge the communication gap between dogs and the people who love them.
Adela Health develops cutting-edge wearable, medical and health devices for active posture management, training, and remote monitoring. The devices use patented technology to measure the curvature of the spine very accurately and provide immediate feedback to the user. The devices also send the posture data to smart phones and info centers through Bluetooth for remote monitoring and analysis.
The first application of the technology is a comfortable undershirt embedded with nano-sensors along the spine. It’s called TruePosture and it measures the curvature of the entire spine very accurately. The feedback is in the form of a gentle vibration to remind you to sit up or stand up straight. Free apps for iPhone, Android, and Windows are available for real-time display of spinal positioning.
TruePosture trains for better muscle control, strengthens the muscles and the core and ultimately makes good posture a habit.
