Dear friend --

B1_lalaw.pngSo, what’s your plan?
Great Scott, you’ve done it. You’ve come up with a killer idea that’s going to revolutionize the way people X, Y or Z faster, cheaper, cleaner or plain better. And, of course, change the world and make you rich. But, before you go knocking on the doors of investors, you’ve got to have a plan. Yesterday’s LA Law Library workshop with Bixel advisor Mark Kapczynski got down to business, prompting the classroom of 27 entrepreneurs to ask themselves the hard questions early on. Participants learned about the essential components of a business plan, which focus on goal-setting, describing the value a product or service will bring to the market, and how to use a business plan to attract investors.

Next up: Bixel advisor Mackenzie Chambers will shed light on accounting basics on Aug. 23. Reserve your seat early.

To build your startup, first build yourself
Maybe you've got the money, connections and timing in line. But are you mentally prepared to endure the entrepreneurial journey? Mark your calendar for our Aug. 25 free startup workshop with Bixel advisor Cam Kashani, at WeWork Santa Monica, and sign up here.

B2_callfire.pngStudents meet the people behind the products
We recently invited a dozen area college students -- as part of the Los Angeles High Impact Information Technology, Entertainment & Entrepreneurship, and Communications Hubs (LA HI-TECH) regional consortium -- to see beyond the casual workplace attire and endless supply of snacks, as some of the many perks of working at a tech company. Student groups spent a few hours with our partners at Callfire, a cloud telephony solutions provider; mobile app developer WeezLabs; and IT company CGI during several job-shadowing opportunities throughout the week. Students gained insight from employees and company leadership on developing software products, working with clients, and attracting talent with both technical and non-technical skill sets. One standout piece of advice: seek passion behind your product.

Want to join Callfire, WeezLabz and CGI, along with other companies in preparing L.A.’s future tech workforce? We are seeking industry partners who share in our excitement to expose students to the world of opportunity within tech. Please contact Sergio Rosas to explore several ways to get involved.

It’s not too late to RSVP.
