Bixel Exchange joins Aspen Institute’s Opportunity Youth Forum Convening
Earlier this month, the Aspen Institute brought together their five demonstration cities, including Los Angeles, for the Opportunity Youth Forum Convening in Aspen. Bixel Exchange joined the convening, which focused on justice, equity and belonging and how it relates to opportunity youth programming. With the event’s amazing speakers and breakout sessions, our team was able to dig deeper into our current work and how we can amplify it to impact more young people. Through the Pathways to Careers track, we spoke with and received feedback from young leaders about our talent pipeline, and had the chance to speak with attendees from other cities about their approach to accelerating opportunity youth to skill up and land jobs that allow them to provide for themselves and their families.

IxD students explore accessibility with Hulu and Bixel Exchange
On Oct. 22, our team joined students in Santa Monica College’s Interactive Design (IxD) program for their midterm presentations to Hulu. The students presented their research findings on how to make Hulu more accessible to individuals with disabilities. Santa Monica College’s work with Hulu was facilitated by Bixel Exchange and will culminate in a final presentation to the Hulu design team at the end of the semester.

b3.jpgSpotlight on … Lupn, Inc.
Lupn, Inc. is the only resident-centered city app with a comprehensive community calendar and a focus on the local movement and economy. Lupn was recently awarded Best Pivot at Glendale Tech Week for their industry pivot from education to government. We spoke with Founder and CEO Adriana Tavares Torresan about her experience as a Startup LAunch tech SBDC entrepreneur.

What are some of the hardest challenges you’ve encountered?
The only constant we have in the startup process is "challenge." They change as the idea, product and company matures. That is the reason why Bixel Exchange is so valuable, because they have provided us with a wide range of learning and support opportunities during this journey.

Lessons you've learned?
I've been working full-time on Lupn for a little over a year and the amount of knowledge I have accumulated is amazing … but the one lesson I would mention is customer development. Understanding your target group, their needs and where they spend money is key for a successful business.

Your favorite part of working with Bixel Exchange?
Bixel Exchange provides a wide range of support, from the diverse adviser backgrounds to the meetings and references shared. Bixel Exchange advisers are very experienced and provided me with great support and guidance.

Until we sync again,

Bixel Exchange
