Hello friend --

b1_c4c.jpgBixel Exchange joins the 17th Annual Cash for College: College & Career Convention
On Nov. 9 and 10, our team joined the Chamber’s L.A. Cash for College: College and Career Convention. The event featured multiple panels, including ones focused on careers in technology and others focused on media and the arts. Bixel Exchange hosted great panelists from companies such as Kaiser Permanente, Riot Games, Joymode and TriNet. Additionally, on Saturday we hosted a tech career community day consisting of both the panels and mock interviewing/speed networking sessions for students to take part in. A very special thank you to Samsung, who not only sat in on one of our panels but hosted a booth where they demonstrated some of their products to students!

With more than 6,000 students, the two-day event culminated with a keynote address from L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti and Chamber President & CEO Maria S. Salinas giving young students and their families words of encouragement and support. Each year, the convention helps young students navigate the financial aid application process, research scholarship information and discover what colleges have to offer them. See the photos. b2_SBDCconference.jpgStartup LAunch explores best practices with California’s SBDCs
On Nov. 7, Startup LAunch’s Kat Yalung and Elianne Rodriguez attended the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) conference in Sacramento. During the event, they had the opportunity to learn best practices to increase capital infusion milestones around debt and equity financing, and how to work with local stakeholders to build better branding and messaging around Bixel Exchange’s tech SBDC services. Kat and Elianne shared Bixel Exchange’s amazing work with other SBDCs around the state, and we collectively came together to learn how to create stronger relationships with underrepresented communities. On Nov. 15, Bixel Exchange took students from Birmingham High School’s computer science pathway on a tour of GoGuardian’s office in El Segundo as a part of our L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline program. Students joined breakout sessions where they spoke with employees from multiple departments about their roles and how their career journey eventually led them to the company. GoGuardian is an education tech company focused on web filtering software for schools. A huge thanks to GoGuardian for hosting us!

b4_LAWED.jpgBixel Exchange celebrates Women’s Entrepreneurship Day
Nov. 19 was Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED) in Los Angeles, as declared by L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti. Kat Yalung and Elianne Rodriguez were on hand at the City Hall celebration to network and share the work that Startup LAunch has been doing with women entrepreneurs. The goal of L.A. WED is to inspire, empower and catalyze diverse agencies and organizations to help women-owned businesses realize their full potential in Los Angeles and throughout the world.
