On Nov. 27, Bixel Exchange and TOMS celebrated #GivingTuesday by hosting Tech Career Community Day at West Los Angeles College. The event included mock interviews and speed networking with community college students facilitated by Bixel Exchange's L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline program. TOMS CEO Jim Alling and 45 TOMS volunteers spoke to and met with students, giving them valuable feedback on interviewing techniques and finding a job in the tech field. See the photos.

On Dec. 4, Fox Sports West hosted L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline students at their production studios where they produce large amounts of content from local L.A. sports events, including hockey, soccer and football. Youth from across the region with an interest in communications, digital arts, computer science and UX/UI design were happy to see that there is a place for their skills in sports media production. It was a great event for the students as they were given a first-hand look at how different teams in various fields work closely to produce weekly television and online content for sports fans all around the world.

Startup LAunch adviser Robin Lee and BAM Ventures welcomed Korean startups coming to Los Angeles at the K-Content Startup Showcase 2018. Hosted by Korea Creative Content Agency USA, the Nov. 27 event presented some of the latest Korean television series. The event also gave attendees the opportunity to meet with leading Korean broadcast companies and top venture capitalists to discuss their projects. Twelve startup companies showcased their innovative products and services, including virtual reality, education, agriculture and music. Learn more.

Quake Capital’s West Coast Challenge invites entrepreneurs and startups to compete for a spot in the Quake L.A. accelerator. The winner will receive $200,000 in funding. This two-day event on Jan. 12 and 13 will take place at USC. Fifty startups will be selected to win a showcase booth at the event and meet with investors. Kat Yalung, director of the Startup LAunch tech SBDC, will address the startups about the work they are doing and how to get involved with other community partners. The competition will have a large number of startups, investors and firms present to hear innovative pitches from budding and seasoned entrepreneurs in order to connect them to the right people. Early decision enrollments will be open through Dec. 7 and a final decision will be made by Dec. 21, so don’t miss out and apply today!

Bixel Exchange’s Startup LAunch program has announced one of our community partners, Grid110, has an open call for applications for two spring 2019 programs supporting Los Angeles founders and startups. The programs range in support from ideation stage to early stage ventures across any business vertical. Both programs are no cost/equity taken. Applications are due Feb. 1, 2019. Startup Kickoff Los Angeles
Dec. 8 | 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Startup Kickoff Los Angeles is a free, five-hour youth entrepreneurship, leadership and technology experience hosted by the Greater Foundation that allows students to take on challenges to invent, refine and pitch their own ideas to local community leaders. The Greater Foundation was co-founded by professional athlete Russell Okung of the Los Angeles Chargers to bring effective programs to disadvantaged, underserved communities. This is a great opportunity for students curious about starting their own journey into tech entrepreneurship.

  Hustle N’ Code Hackathon
Dec. 15

TXT’s Hustle N’ Code Hackathon is an event aimed at inspiring girls and boys who live in public housing developments to address pressing issues in their communities using technology. For the first time ever, TXT will be hosting two hackathons in two different locations at the same time: Boyle Heights and South L.A. Through the event, hundreds of teens from L.A. will be exposed to computer science for the first time.
