b1.jpgHulu hosts SMC IxD students for their community challenge final

On Dec. 17, students from Santa Monica College’s (SMC) Interaction Design (IxD) program showcased their semester-long community challenge projects to Hulu UX designers. Students were challenged to make content available to people with disabilities. The class broke down to five groups that focused on devices for easier use, voice recognition technologies and prototypes. The students also compiled their research data into a website for the Hulu design team to use for future projects. Bixel Exchange facilitated the partnership between SMC and Hulu, and we are proud to have community partners committed to providing access to students to showcase their abilities and design thinking for the betterment of the community at large. On Jan. 12 and 13, Quake Capital hosted their West Coast Challenge, centered on startups seeking to evolve into their next phase of development. Quake Capital invited entrepreneurs and startups to compete for a spot in the Quake L.A. Accelerator through a pitch competition. Two of the seven pitch participants, CLQSIX and CityGrows, were from Bixel Exchange’s Startup LAunch Program. Many of our investor partners were at the event, including TenOneTen Ventures, Silicon Valley Bank and Backstage Capital. "We have awesome investors and partners who genuinely care about our startups," said Kat Yalung, director of the Startup LAunch Program.

In addition, Kat spoke at the Acceleration panel that discussed issues around common rookie mistakes, top leadership traits and the true grit of the side hustle. At the event, attendees also learned about securing funding for their startups and how to be well prepared for going into a pitch. See the photos. Learn more.
