Bixel Exchange’s L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline program has geared up once again to place as many students as possible into internships with tech companies all around the greater Los Angeles region. As of April 1, we received more than 1,000 student applicants interested in securing an internship this summer. Our team is now hard at work conducting interviews and assessing each candidate’s skills in order to place qualified individuals with eager employers. We are excited to see all the great work our candidates accomplish this summer! If you are an employer interested in hiring summer tech talent, sign up here.

b2_coworking.jpgBixel Exchange hosts coworking day @ Ethos Society

On March 28, Bixel Exchange traveled to Ethos Society, located in the heart of Koreatown, to host this year’s second, jam-packed coworking day organized by our Startup LAunch and L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline teams. Bixel hosted 39 startup companies, 20 community partners, 10 advisors and 20 community college students. Startup founders had access to 12 one-on-one sessions and, for those who were ready, access to a fundraising roundtable. Younger startups participated in the pitch clinic where seasoned veterans in marketing, research and funding gave them valuable feedback on their progress. L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline students had a chance to interview with startups to prepare them for internships and potential jobs within those same companies. So, what does one do with all the connections we have made? We do it all over again! Our coworking day takes place on the last Thursday of every month, so stay tuned for more details and come make startup history with us!

b3_jointinterviewday.jpgBixel Exchange teams up with the Chamber for interview day in South L.A.

On March 30, L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline joined the Chamber’s health care pathways program at our first joint interview day at Vernon-Central YouthSource Center in South L.A., in partnership with the Coalition for Responsible Community Development (CRCD). More than 35 opportunity youth, including foster and transition-aged youth, participated in mock interviews for paid summer internship opportunities with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, Snap Inc. and other companies. This work would not be possible without the partnership and support of foster youth-serving agencies and programs such as the Guardian Scholars programs, the Pritzker Foster Care Initiative and the Aspen Institute. b4_Lorals.jpgBixel celebrates huge wins at Backstage Capital, Grid110 and Quake Capital

Bixel Exchange would like to congratulate several startups who have been accepted into various accelerators around L.A. Melanie Cristol, founder of Lorals, a women’s lingerie company, has been accepted into Backstage Capital’s first cohort, an exclusive honor that only 25 startups get to share from a pool of 1,800 applicants. Anna Gabriella Casalme founder of Novelly, an enterprise that empowers young people to become global citizens, has been accepted into Grid110’s Idea to Prototype and Residency 2019 spring cohort. And Catherine Geanuracos, founder of CityGrows, a digital solutions company that streamlines government operations, was accepted into Quake Capital. They will go on to receive access to free office space, mentorship and other critical resources to bring their company to the next level. We wish them luck and can’t wait to see what they do down the road.
