b1.jpgBixel Exchange celebrates Latinx entrepreneurship at POSiBLE LA

On June 22, Bixel Exchange joined Univision for their annual POSiBLE LA Entrepreneur Expo to celebrate the city's Latinx business and entrepreneur community. Kat Yalung and Elianne Rodriguez, part of Bixel Exchange's Startup LAunch Tech SBDC team, moderated panels on several topics, including fully utilizing technology for business and fostering growth for the next generation of Latinx entrepreneurs.

Held at the Pasadena Convention Center, this year's event brought out prominent leaders in the Latinx community, and featured the announcement of Latinapreneurs, a new initiative aimed at providing resources to Latina business women around L.A. Stay tuned for more information on the first of a seven-event, limited-run series starting this month. Don’t miss your chance to connect!

Last month, Bixel Exchange held our monthly coworking day at Indie Desk. The event featured workshops on building a minimum viable product (MVP) and message. Our team was also fortunate enough to host Colorintech, a U.K. nonprofit organization focused on tech inclusivity, to witness how our team executes our programs aimed at helping startups and students achieve success in the tech field.

Bixel Exchange's L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline students had the opportunity to travel to the TOMS headquarters in Playa Vista to tour the facilities and be part of a focus group. The informative focus group touched on timely topics and sensitive issues in L.A. and around the world. Attendees were also lucky enough to get a glimpse into the upcoming fall and winter products. Thank you to TOMS for valuing our students' input, and Colorintech for joining us!

b4.jpgBixel Exchange kicks off 2019 summer internships with WorkforceReady unveiling

Last Tuesday, Bixel Exchange's L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline kicked off the summer internship season with an orientation and luncheon for new interns and their respective companies. Program coordinator Jaideep Upadhyay led the orientation, presenting a detailed overview of how Bixel Exchange's internship program works with the Office of Mayor Eric Garcetti and the Mayor's HIRE LA's Youth initiative. Chief Marketing Evangelist Alec Green, Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation, also joined the event to unveil WorkForceReady, a free program offering online courses for students to develop the job-readiness skills required to be successful in today’s work environment. As part of a new partnership with Cornerstone OnDemand Foundation, Bixel Exchange will be piloting WorkforceReady with their 2019 summer interns, with the goal of rolling out the program to all L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline participants in the future. See the photos.

b5.jpgCongratulations to Startup LAunch company Lorals!

Congratulations to Startup LAunch Tech SBDC entrepreneur Melanie Cristol of Lorals on her recent accomplishments in the Backstage Accelerator. As a part of Backstage Capital's program, Cristol and each of the participants received dedicated mentorship and guidance over the course of 12 weeks to get their companies to the next stage in their development. At last month's culminating event, the accelerator cohort had exhibition booths where they shared their products and the progress they made through the program.

Application season is here!

Several community partners are gearing up for their accelerator programs and we are glad to spread the word on their programs:

Quake Capital is offering a 12-week program aimed at getting companies accepted into the cohort ready to raise money on a larger scale. The deadline to apply is July 22.

Grid110 is accepting applications for two programs aimed at different stages of startup development. Idea to Prototype (I2P) is an eight-week course that works with both idea-stage and prototype-stage companies to build a strong foundation. The Residency Program is a three-month program focused on growth for companies in their early stage of development. Don’t wait; the fall applications close on July 26.

Until we sync again,

Bixel Exchange
