b2_coworking.jpgFebruary 2020 Coworking Day

Bixel Exchange held our first Coworking Day of 2020 at Industrious DTLA. The afternoon was filled with workshops, networking and a pitch competition, celebrating what it means to be a startup founder in L.A. Sebastian De Vivo hosted our Objectives and Key Results workshop, challenging our startups to develop concrete and achievable goals to tackle in the coming weeks. Shopify Consultant Chris Snyder taught our startups about creating the best possible online store for their business, including the basics of marketing, the intricacies of driving traffic and converting leads into sales, all within the Shopify platform. Roberto Martinez, one of our #MarketingTeam advisors, shared his knowledge and experience in creating solid SEO practices for small businesses to make a lasting impression on the world’s largest search engine, Google. During these workshops, we had 12 advising sessions with our Product, Money and Marketing teams. The evening ended with Ulule’s #ActForImpact pitch competition, with 10 teams competing for a Bank of the West grant. Check out and like our Instagram post.

The L.A. Tech Talent Pipeline and ZipRecruiter hosted 25 students at the ZipRecruiter office for a series of panels and networking opportunities. During the panels, students had the chance to learn career-readiness tips from team members in software development, marketing, finance and more. Students also had the opportunity to ask questions that will help them prepare for their own job search and become more competitive in the job market. Check out and share our Instagram post.

b5_yucas.jpgWomen's History Month Spotlight on Yuca’s

In honor of Women’s History Month, Bixel Exchange would like to recognize one of our portfolio companies and a woman-owned business, Yuca’s!

Yuca’s owner Socorro Herrera has had some amazing achievements throughout her entrepreneurial career, but one accolade stands out among others. “Being nominated for, and receiving the James Beard Award (America's Classics category) was an unexpected and exciting moment,” said Herrera. “The fact that Patric Kuh, the food critic for Los Angeles Magazine, was the one to nominate us made it extra special. We are proud to be the only taco stand to have received the highest honor in the U.S. culinary industry.”

Herrera is an active member of the L.A. Area Chamber and Bixel Exchange, seizing every opportunity and resource available to her and her business. Her advice to other female founders is to “talk to experienced entrepreneurs so you don't go out and invent the wheel all over again! Use resources available to you -- other business owners, Chamber resources, etc. Definitely don't try to do it all alone.” That’s why Startup LAunch has a team of 40 advisors ready to help and keep businesses like Yuca’s thriving.
